Illustrated Poems by Martha Speer
(1945 - 2021)
A solopreneur, psychologist, Zen Buddhist, and lifelong artist, Martha Speer became a prolific haiku author in the final decade of her life. While skilled in many mediums, she found great solace in the calm simplicity of composing short illustrated poems on index cards while watching the trees from her back porch.
Although she resisted the 5-7-5 haiku structure that is taught in English schools, Martha remained faithful to the Japanese ideal; efficiently describing one moment in time in a way that awakens the senses. This collection showcases her unique lifelong ability to witness the profound in everyday life.

As Martha's only daughter, I first built this memorial site as a way to keep her spirit alive and share her art with the world. It has since served as a meaningful part of my journey in web design, allowing me to develop my own creativity while honoring hers.
